Note: Excavated area which contains three temples built in succession on the same site. The temples were built of stone in the third and second millennia BCE. The second temple is best preserved and includes a subterranean well that is believed to be an abzu (or apsu) of the god Enki. Offerings of pottery and copper objects have been discovered in the foundation of Temple 1, as has evidence of animal sacrifice. The temple is located on the west coast of Bahrain to the north of the Saar settlement. It is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
