Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe, a band of the Ojibwe Nation. The reservation spans approximately 76,465 acres near the city of Hayward in Sawyer, Washburn, and Burnett Counties, Wisconsin. Though the Lac Courte Oreilles Band traditionally occupied the lands within a 100-mile radius of their reservation's current location, they were not granted a federally-recognized reservation until March 1, 1873, via Secretarial Order. The Treat of La Pointe, signed in 1854, solidified the reservation's boundaries and established specific territorial rights for Lac Courte land/resource use. |
