Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Bishop Paiute Tribe. The reservation spans 875 acres of land at the base of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains in Inyo County, California. The reservation, originally part of the Bishop Colony and Big Pine Reservations and comprising 67,000 acres of land, was established by an Executive Order on March 11, 1912. Though the original reservation lands were revoked by President Hoover in 1932, they were ultimately traded for the reservation's current acreage in 1936. |
