Note: The village is located near Tŭrnovo in the north central Bulgarian region of Lovech. Christian Albanians of Greek culture fleeing from the Turks founded it, probably in the 16th century. It was a prosperous commercial center in the 17th and 18th centuries, but was devastated by fire in 1798 and all of its inhabitants fled. People from the mountains of Stara Planina replaced them. Today it is a popular tourist destination, with its stone buildings and churches, the many old monasteries in the surrounding area.
