Note: The Roman site is on a promontory surrounded on three sides by the river Itchen on the edge of Southampton Water. It was occupied soon after the Claudian invasion of 43 CE and it continued to be occupied into the 5th century or later. Parts of the site have been excavated, with discoveries, including three inscriptions, now housed in the Gods House Tower Museum. The site is now mostly covered by modern houses.
