Note: The site is set on two islands on the River Len in the heart of Kent, adjacent to the village of Leeds near Maidstone. The Saxon manor of Esledes was rebuilt and fortified by Robert de Crevecoeur, a lord of William the Conquero, in 1119. It has been home to royalty, lords, and ladies for over 1000 years. Today it is in private ownership and a tourist destination. |
