Note: Broad High Street is lined with elegant 18th-century shops and houses; present church dates from the 13th century but was probably a rebuilding of an earlier one; Kimbolton Castle was home to Katherine of Aragon during her last unhappy years when her marriage to Henry VIII was unofficially annulled and she insisted on retaining the title of Queen; Sir John Vanbrugh enveloped the older building with a classical façade, ca. 1707; it became a school for boys in the 20th century. |
