Note: Early Christian kingdom in eastern Sudan (and historical Nubia). Old Dunqulah was the capital of the kingdom from the mid-6th century CE. Protected by the baqt, a form of tribute to Muslim Egypt. Converted to Monophysite Christianity by the 6th century. By about 1366, Makuria had become Islamic.
