Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB). The reservation spans Emmet, Charlevoix, and Delta Counties, Michigan. It was initially established in 1836, pursuant to a federal treaty recognizing LTBB hunting, fishing, and gathering rights on ceeded territories in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula. A subsequent treaty signed in 1855 expanded the reservation to 336 square miles of land. Presently, the LTBB owns scattered parcels of land throughout the historic reservation boundaries. In an effort to uplift the epistemic authority of Indigenous knowledge systems and engage with Indigenous peoples' Right of Reply, ethical collaboration with the tribal chairperson's office and/or cultural center is highly encouraged for the most authoritative information about tribal reservations. |
