Note: Gorge near the city of Fuling in the Chongqing municipality that was submerged with the installation of the Three Gorges Dam. The gorge's limestone walls were covered with calligraphies recording water levels for the safe passage of boats through the gorges, dating from the Han and Eastern Jin period (317-420 CE) to the Qing period (1644-1911).
