Note: The city of Göppingen is situated on the Fils River at the foot of the Swabian Jura in southwestern Germany. Founded by the imperial Hohenstaufen family in 1150, it was ruled by the counts of Württemberg from 1273. Fire destroyed it twice, in 1425 and 1782. Historic architecture includes the late Gothic Oberhofen Church, built between 1430 and 1480. The 2004 estimated population was 57,900. |
