Note: Ancient trade site located just south of the Black Volta, at a transitional zone between savanna and forest. Was one of the largest towns in the southern West Africa prior to Portuguese arrival in 1471. Noted for walled structures dating 1350-1750 CE, pottery, and evidence of iron smelting.
