Note: A Roman auxiliary fort on the Danube, located around 30 km southwest of Regensburg in Bavaria. Was historically incorrectly associated with Abensberg. It was originally a timbered earth fort erected by the Romans in the 1st century CE and named for the nearby Abens River. It was disbanded by the Romans in the 3rd century, but subsequently occupied by Germanic forces. Besides the military fort there were civilian structures. Remnants of the bath, the camp gate, and one outbuilding remain. It is open to visitors at certain hours. |
