Note: Ouiatenon was a multi-ethnic town containing Miami, Wea, Piankeshaw, and Pepicokes Native inhabitants, amongst others. Ouiatenon contained a fort as well as extensive farms. The French traded extensively with Ouiatenon in the 17th and 18th centuries. A French fort was later built near the site in 1717. The town was razed by the Kentucky militia in 1792, as ordered by the Secretary of War Henry Knox, to create land for new settlers.
