Note: Capital and religious center of the ancient kingdom of Kush. Established in the mid 15th century BCE, by the 8th century BCE, Napata became the seat of the Kushite monarchy that conquered Egypt ca. 715 BCE. The Kushites were pushed out of Egypt by the Assyrians in 664 BCEm and in 591 BCE, Napata was destroyed. The center of Kush then moved to Meroë, although Napata was resurrected and seems to have flourished until the late 4th century CE.
