Note: Located 12 miles west of Yerevan in central Armenia, Ejmiatsin was named the capital of Parthia by Vologases III, in 140 CE. When the country was converted to Christianity ca. 300 CE, Ejmiatsin became the home of the Armenian patriarch. The city is also home to a 6th century CE monastery, which houses an important collection of Armenian literature. |
