Note: A former county in northeastern Wales, replaced by Denbighshire and Flintshire in 1996. The area straddles frontier between lowland of central England and the highlands of the country. It is noted for remains from Bronze Age, Iron Age forts, Roman roads, and for Norman castles at Flint, Rhuddlan, and Denbigh.
