Note: Girona is situated near the Ońar River in the foothills of the Los Angeles mountains. The capital city of Girona province was taken by Muslims in 714 then recaptured by Franks under Charlemagne in 785. It fell again in 793 and was retaken by Louis of Aquitaine in 797 to later be brought into the kingdom of Aragón. Historic landmarks include the Gothic cathedral and Provincial Archaeological Museum.
