Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Viejas Band of the Kumeyaay Indians. The reservation spans 1,600 acres of land just north of the Mexican border near the town of Alpine in San Diego County, California. Formerly a ranch owned by Baron Long, the reservation lands were first purchased by twenty-eight Kumeyaay families upon being forcibly displaced from the nearby Capitan Grande Indian Reservation in 1932 . An Executive Order in 1934 federally designated the reservation.
