Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation jointly stewarded by the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho Tribes. The reservation spans over 2.2 million acres in the Wind River Mountains in Freemont and Hot Springs Counties, Wyoming, making it the seventh largest reservation in the country and the only reservation in the state of Wyoming. Though the Eastern Shoshone Tribe has lived in the Wind River mountain range for some 12,000 years, its reservation was officially established by the Fort Bridger Treaty in 1863. The Northern Arapaho Tribe joined the Eastern Shoshone on the reservation in 1878.
