Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Fort Independence Tribe of Paiute Indians. The reservation spans approximately 560 acres near the town of Independence in Inyo County, California. It was initially established through Executive Orders 2264 and 2375 in 1915 and 1916 respectively, which designated 360 acres for the Tribe. In 2000, the Tribe received an additional 200 acres of land, bringing the reservation to its current acreage.
