Note: Founded by Achaean colonists in the 8th-7th centuries BCE; an ancient city of Magna Graecia on the shore of the Ionian Sea. After the destruction of the city by Rome in 200 BCE, the inhabitants moved inland to found Stilida, modern Stilo. Formerly believed to be on the site of Castelvetere (now also called Caulonia). |
