Note: El Ganso was one of the pilgrimage sites on route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, home of the shrine dedicated to Saint James, the patron saint of Spain. Various pilgrimage routes in the autonomous communities of Aragon, Navarre, and León correspond to old Roman roads built in the northern portion of the Iberian Peninsula. Located in El Ganso are the hospital and church of San Justo which were given by the priest Miguel Juan to the Canons of Astorga between 1142 and 1149; the church was later to become a dependency of Santa María de Villoria at Órbigo.
