Note: Etruscan settlement located at southwest edge of modern Siena; it is on a flattened conical hill. It was founded in the Late Etruscan perod, which was a period of economic growth and turbulent political change in this part of Etruria. It is believed that the entire area was depopulated of Etruscans in the early 1st century BCE, then repopulated by a Roman colony at Siena. |
