Note: The city is located in the Bashkirskaya Respublika on the Belaja River. It grew rapidly in the 20th century with the development of the Volga-Ural oilfield. Other industries include chemicals, synthetic rubber, furniture, and mining machinery. It has been connected administratively with the nearby town of Chernikovsk since 1956. The 2003 population was estimated at 1,096.600.
