Note: A former county in southwestern Wales that included Cardiganshire, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire. These three counties were restored in 1996. The capital of Dyfed was Carmarthen. It is noted for Neolithic sites, Iron Age camps and Anglo-Norman castles; many English immigrants settled here in Middle Ages; sheep and cattle are raised in inland area. The name comes from the Dyfed territory of the Demetae (a Celtic tribe).
