Note: Kolding is a town located at head of Kolding Fjord, north of Haderslev in the eastern Jutland of Denmark. The settlement was founded in 1321 to protect the Danish frontier, forming around the 1248 royal castle. It is noted for the 13th-century church of St. Nicholas, damaged by fire in 1808 but now partly restored; it is one of the oldest churches in Denmark. The modern town is a railway and export center with industries including the manufacture of textiles, cement, and machinery, and shipbuilding. The 2004 population estimate was 54,400.
