Note: This is a federally-recognized reservation stewarded by the Hualapai Tribe. The reservation spans approximately one million acres along 108 miles of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River in Coconino, Yavapai, and Mohave Counties, Arizona. In 1874, the United States military forcibly relocated hundreds of Hualapai to the Colorado River Indian Reservation, leading to the death and internment of many Hualapai people. In 1883, seven years after the survivors of this forced relocation escaped imprisonment and returned to their ancestral lands in northwestern Arizona, they were allocated their current reservation lands through an Executive Order. |
