Note: Deserted settlement of the Post-Classic Era Maya civilization, located in the north east Chimaltenango department of Guatemala, about 50 km. to the north of Guatemala City and 4 km. from the junction of the Pixcaya and Motagua Rivers. There is disagreement as to whether the site currently known as Mixco Viejo is the same as the Mixco Viejo described in Colonial documents. Originally believed to be the Pocomam Mayan capital, recent studies have instead suggested that the ruins were the capital of the Kaqchikel-speaking Chajoma Maya.
