Note: Small painted wooden panels (and later, canvases) created as the covers for official documents of the Biccherna, the finance ministry of Siena between the thirteenth and eighteenth centuries. At some point in their history, the covers, which typically portrayed scenes of office life, were detached from their documents and treated as paintings which were hung on the office walls. Only 136 of these painted covers have been preserved. |

Dutch ..... Kleine beschilderde houten panelen (en later doeken) die werden gemaakt als omslag voor officiële documenten van de Biccherna, het ministerie van Financiën van Siena tussen de 13e en de 18e eeuw. Op een gegeven moment werden de omslagen, vaak taferelen uit het kantoorleven, van de documenten afgehaald en behandeld als schilderijen, die aan de muren van de kantoren werden gehangen. Er zijn slechts 136 van deze beschilderde omslagen bewaard gebleven. |
Portuguese ..... Pequenos painéis pintados feitos em madeira (e depois, em telas) criados como capas para documentos oficiais da Biccherna, o ministério de finanças de Siena entre os séculos XIII e XVIII. Em certo ponto de sua história, as capas, que geralmente retratavam cenas da vida do escritório, foram removidas dos documentos e tratadas como pinturas que foram, então, penduradas nas paredes do escritório. Somente 136 dessas capas pintadas estão preservadas. |
