Leden van een ondersoort van de bruine beer, die inheems zijn in de bergstreken van het westen van Noord-Amerika en zich kenmerken door hun grote omvang, gedrongen schouders, het hoge voorhoofd dat bijdraagt aan een enigszins holrond profiel, en een vacht die bruinachtig tot vaalgeel van kleur is met haren met opvallend zilverkleurige of bleke punten, waardoor het 'grizzled' ('grijsgemaakte') uiterlijk ontstaat waaraan deze beren hun naam danken. |
