Note: Round, oval, or bilobated shields of Classical Greece and later, Doric in origin, made of layers of cow hide and large enough to protect most of the body. Early models were held in the hand; later versions had an armlet set diagonally, with a handle near the edge, and were carried on the arm.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Ronde, ovale of tweelobbige schilden uit de Griekse Oudheid en daarna; ze waren Dorisch van origine, gemaakt van lagen koeienhuid en groot genoeg om bijna het gehele lichaam mee te beschermen. Oudere modellen werden in de hand gehouden maar latere uitvoeringen hadden een diagonaal geplaatste armband, met een handvat aan de rand, en werden op de arm gedragen. 
Spanish ..... Escudo redondo, oval o bilobulado de la Grecia clásica y posterior. Dórico en su origen, estaba realizado de capas de piel de vaca y era lo suficientemente grande como para proteger la mayor parte del cuerpo. Los primeros modelos se sostenían en las manos; versiones posteriores tenían un conjunto de brazaletes diagonalmente dispuestos, con un mango cerca del borde y se llevaban sobre el brazo.
