Note: Pelts of a distinctive style, usually of sable or marten, commonly mounted with decorated heads and paws of crystal or gold ornamented with gems. Worn either around the neck and shoulders, suspended by a chain from a girdle, or carried in the hand. Popular in Europe during the 16th century; the name refers to the theory, probably erroneous, that the furs were used to attract fleas and lice away from the wearer. |

Dutch ..... Te gebruiken voor pelswerk, gewoonlijk sabel- of marterbont, meestal uitgerust met versierde koppen en klauwen van kristal of goud en bezet met edelstenen. Gedragen om de hals en schouders, met een ketting vastgezet aan een riem, of in de hand gedragen. Populair in Europa in de 16de eeuw. Mogelijk gebruikt om vlooien en luizen van het lichaam van de drager aan te trekken. |
German ..... Fell von unverwechselbarem Stil, gewöhnlich von einem Zobel oder Marder, im Allgemeinen waren Kopf und Tatzen aus Kristall oder Gold gefasst und dekoriert mit Juwelen. Getragen entweder um den Hals und die Schultern, an einer Kette vom Gürtel herunterhängend oder in der Hand getragen. Populär im Europa des 16. Jahrhunderts; der Name bezieht sich auf die wahrscheinlich irrtümliche Theorie, dass der Pelz getragen wurde, um vom Träger weg Flöhe und Läuse anzuziehen. |
