Note: A contemporary artistic movement that began in 1971 in Papunya, a settlement west of Alice Springs, Australia. In the early years of the movement, Western Desert men painted traditional designs on small boards. The artistic movement now is characterized by an increasing abstraction of motifs and includes women artists.

In de eerste jaren van de beweging schilderden Western Desert-mensen traditionele ontwerpen op kleine panelen.
