Note: Formal neckcloths consisting of long strips of fine cloth wound around the neck and tied in front into a bow or knot. Ends may also tuck inside a coat. Worn especially from the end of the 17th century through the 19th century. For long, narrow lengths of cloth worn around the neck and usually under a collar, tied in a knot, loop, or bow, and often with two ends falling free vertically, use "neckties."

| Dutch ..... Nette herendassen die aan de voorkant zijn gevouwen of geknoopt met de uiteinden in het jasje gestopt. Ook stukken kant, zijde of ander fijn materiaal die om de hals worden gedragen door mannen en vooral in de mode waren in de 17e eeuw. Gebruik `stropdassen' voor lange, smalle stroken stof die om de hals onder de boord worden gedragen en in een knoop, lus of strik worden vastgemaakt. |
| German ..... Förmliches Halstuch aus langen Streifen aus feinem Tuch, das um den Hals gewickelt und auf der Vorderseite zu einer Schleife oder einem Knoten gebunden wird. Die Enden können auch in einem Mantel stecken. Vor allem vom Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts bis ins 19. Jahrhundert getragen. Für lange, schmale Stoffbahnen, die um den Hals getragen und in der Regel unter einem Kragen getragen werden, und die mit einem Knoten, Schlaufe oder Schleife gebunden werden, und zwei senkrecht fallende Enden haben, verwenden Sie den Begriff "Halsbinde". |
| Spanish ..... Úsese para designar una indumentaria formal de cuello consistente en correas largas de tejido fino enrolladas alrededor del cuello y atadas en la parte delantera con un lazo o nudo. Los extremos pueden también insertarse en un abrigo. Utilizado especialmente desde finales del siglo XVII hasta el siglo XIX. Para longitudes de tela largas y estrechas, utilizadas alrededor de la garganta y por lo general debajo de un cuello, atadas con un nudo o lazo, y frecuentemente con dos extremos que cuelga verticalmente, use "corbata". |
