Note: Refers to a Hindu sect and reform movement founded by the brahman Dayananda Sarasvati in Bombay in 1875. Followers, striving for a return to the original purity of Hinduism found in the Vedas, are against image-worship, child-marriage, polygamy and meaningless ritual. Dayananda's book 'Vedabhashya' contains his interpretations of the Vedas, the earliest Hindu scriptures. Arya Samaj promotes a moral vision of kindness and goodwill to all. Arya Samaj, now a worldwide organization, is also opposed to the traditional Hindu caste system and works to remove religious and social injustices. Arya Samaj followers also introduced the novel idea of converting to Hinduism people of other faiths. In 1893 there was a split between conservative and liberal followers who disagreed on whether to advocate traditional or modern forms of education and on whether to advocate vegetarianism or freedom of diet. The movement became nationalistic and was in conflict with Sikhs and Muslims, especially in the Punjab around the time of the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 指西元1875年，婆羅門達耶難陀‧娑羅室伐底(Dayananda Sarasvati)在孟買創建的一個印度教派別與改革運動。其信徒努力復興純粹的吠陀印度教，反對形象崇拜、孩童婚姻、一夫多妻或一妻多夫，以及無意義的儀式。達耶難陀之書《Vedabhashya, 吠達巴夏》記載他對印度教最早典籍《吠陀經》的詮釋。雅利安社傳佈一個仁慈與善意的道德願景予眾人。現在雅利安社已是世界性的組織，亦反對傳統印度教的種性制度，且致力於消弭宗教與社會之不公義。雅利安社信徒也對其他信仰的印度教徒提出皈依的新觀念。西元1893年，保守派與革新派針對是否應提倡傳統或現代化教育、應堅持素食主義或開放飲食自由而意見分歧。此運動之後變成全國性，和錫克教徒與穆斯林迭起衝突，尤其是西元1947年印度與巴基斯坦分裂時，於旁遮普(Punjab)地區衝突最烈。 |
| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een hindoeïstische geloofsgemeenschap en hervormingsbeweging die in 1875 in Bombay is gesticht door de brahmaan Dayananda Sarasvati. Zijn volgelingen, die streven naar een terugkeer tot de oorspronkelijke zuiverheid van het hindoeïsme zoals dat te vinden is in de Veda’s, zijn tegen beeldenverering, kinderhuwelijken, polygamie en betekenisloze rituelen. Dayananda's boek Vedabhashya bevat zijn uitleg van de Veda’s, de oudste hindoegeschriften. Arya Samaj draagt een morele visie van vriendelijkheid en goede wil jegens allen uit. Arya Samaj, thans een wereldwijde organisatie, is ook tegenstander van het traditionele hindoeïstische kastenstelsel en zet zich in voor de bestrijding van godsdienstig en sociaal onrecht. Volgelingen van Arya Samaj hebben ook het nieuwe idee geïntroduceerd om mensen met andere geloofsovertuigingen te bekeren tot het hindoeïsme. In 1893 was er een schisma tussen conservatieve en liberale volgelingen die het niet eens werden over de vraag of zij traditionele of moderne vormen van onderwijs moesten propageren en of ze al dan niet vegetarisme moesten bepleiten. De beweging werd later nationalistisch en kwam in botsing met sikhs en moslims, vooral in Punjab rond de scheiding van India en Pakistan in 1947. |

Sus seguidores, luchan por un retorno a la pureza original del Hinduismo encontrado en los Vedas, están en contra del culto a las imágenes, al matrimonio entre niños, la poligamia y el ritual sin sentido. El libro de Dayananda "Vedabhashya" contiene sus interpretaciones de los Vedas, las escrituras hindúes más antiguas. Arya Samaj promueve una visión moral de bondad y buena voluntad para todos. Arya Samaj, ahora una organización mundial, también se opone al tradicional sistema de castas hindú y trabaja para terminar con las injusticias religiosas y sociales. Los seguidores de Arya Samaj también introdujeron la nueva idea de convertir al hinduismo a pueblos de otras fe.
