cosmolabes (astronomical instruments, scientific instruments, ... Furnishings and Equipment (hierarchy name)) |
|
Note: Ancient instruments originally designed by Huguenot inventor and pastor Jacques Besson in 1567. Cosmolabes resembled astrolabes, used to measure distances between celestial bodies. However, they could also be, according to Besson’s design, used in navigation, cartography, surveying, and when not in use could be folded into a reading desk. |
