Note: A traditional and popular form of East Asian painting, screen fan paintings typically appear on round or ovoid pieces of silk, held taut by a circular outer frame attached to bamboo or wooden handles. Curved folding fan paintings, typically on paper, are mounted on long, thin ribs of wood, bamboo, or ivory, joined at a pivot which allows the fan to close.

| Dutch ..... Traditionele en populaire vorm van Oost-Aziatische schilderkunst. Bij schermwaaiers staan de schilderingen op ronde of eivormige stukken zijde, die strak worden gehouden door een cirkelvormig frame dat op een handvat van bamboe of hout is bevestigd. Bij opvouwbare waaiers staan de schilderingen op papier, dat aan lange, dunne stokjes van hout, bamboe of ivoor is bevestigd. De stokjes komen samen in een draaipunt, zodat de waaier kan worden gesloten en geopend. |
| Portuguese ..... Uma forma popular e tradicional de pintura do leste da Ásia. Pinturas em leques normalmente aparecem em pedaços de seda esticados por uma moldura circular presa em cabos de bambu ou de madeira. Pinturas em leques dobráveis, geralmente em papel, são feitas sobre varetas longas e finas de madeira, bambu ou marfim, unidas por um eixo que permite que o leque seja fechado. |
