Note: Two- or three-wheeled, simply constructed light vehicles propelled by the rider, by pedals, treadles, levers, or with the feet directly on the ground, while seated astride a central bar; may or may not be steerable and the front wheel is often larger than the rear one(s); usually restricted to those vehicles built from the 1790s to around 1870. For similar lightweight vehicles provided with comfort- or speed-enhancing features and built after about 1870, prefer "bicycles" for those with two wheels in tandem or "tricycles" for three-wheeled versions.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 兩輪或三輪、構造簡單的輕型車,由騎乘者跨坐於中央桿上,使用踏板及控制桿向前推進,或直接以腳蹬地前進; 不一定可控制方向,而前輪通常較後輪大; 一般特指在1790年至1870年左右所製造的車輛。若指稱類似的輕型車輛,以提升舒適度或速度為特色,於1870年後才製造使用者,兩輪前後排列的見“腳踏車”一詞,而三輪者則見 “三輪腳踏車”一詞 
Dutch ..... Te gebruiken voor twee- of driewielige, eenvoudig gebouwde, lichte voertuigen die door de berijder, die schrijlings op de middenstang zit, werden aangedreven door middel van pedalen, trappers, hendels of met de voeten direct op de grond; al of niet bestuurbaar en met een voorwiel dat vaak groter was dan het achterwiel (of wielen); meestal beperkt tot die voertuigen die werden gebouwd vanaf eind 18e eeuw tot rond 1870. Gebruik 'fietsen' voor soortgelijke lichte voertuigen met twee wielen achter elkaar en comfort- en snelheid vergrotende kenmerken, die na ongeveer 1870 werden gemaakt en 'driewielers (fietsen)' voor versies met drie wielen. 
Spanish ..... Úsese para designar un vehículo ligero, de dos o tres ruedas, de construcción simple, propulsado por el propio conductor por medio de pedales, palancas o con el pie directamente sobre el suelo, mientras se está sentado a horcajadas sobre una barra central. Puede o no ser dirigible y la rueda frontal es, por lo general, más grande que la trasera. Usualmente, el término se restringe para aquellos vehículos construidos desde la década de 1790 hasta alrededor de 1870. Para vehículos similares de peso ligero, provistos con comodidades y dispositivos para incremento de la velocidad, y construidos alrededor de la década de 1870, prefiera "bicicleta” para aquéllos con dos ruedas en tándem o "triciclo” para las versiones de tres ruedas.
