Note: Refers to a style that developed beginning in the second quarter of the 11th century in Scandinavia and Scandinavian settlements in Ireland and England. The style is named after carvings on the stave church at Urnes, Norway, and is characterized by the use of transformed Ringerike-style motifs and new elements. Compositions are more unified than Ringerike, and typically include extremely stylized animals, with larger animals displaying a distinctive swelling and tapering of the body.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar een stijl die zich ontwikkelde in het tweede kwart van de 11de eeuw in Scandinavië en in Scandinavische nederzettingen in Ierland en Engeland. De stijl is genoemd naar het houtsnijwerk op de staafkerk in het Noorse Urnes en kenmerkt zich door het gebruik van getransformeerde motieven uit de Ringerike-stijl en nieuwe elementen. De werken vertonen een grotere eenheid dan de Ringerike-werken. Opvallend zijn de uiterst gestileerde dieren, waarbij grotere dieren vaak worden afgebeeld met een merkwaardig, afwisselend breder en smaller wordend lichaam. |
| Spanish ..... Se refiere a un estilo que se desarrolló a comienzos del segundo cuarto del siglo XI en Escandinavia y en los asentamientos escandinavos en Irlanda e Inglaterra. El estilo lleva el nombre de los grabados en los listones de madera de la iglesia en Urnes, Noruega, y se caracteriza por el uso de motivos transformados del estilo Ringerike y nuevos elementos. Las composiciones son más unificadas que en el Ringerike, y típicamente incluyen animales sumamente estilizados, con animales más grandes desplegando una hinchazón característica hinchazón y adelgazamiento del cuerpo. |
