Note: Refers to a Chinese dynastic culture, style, and period dating 420 to 479. The Liu Song, which succeeded the Eastern Jin dynasty, continued the cultural development begun by the Jin. The dynasty was founded by Liu Yu (363-422), whose surname forms part of the name in order to distinguish it from a later dynasty of the same name, the Song dynasty (960-1279, ruled by the Zhao family.
