Note: Short swords, hangers, with short cross hilts, often elaborately decorated and made of fine materials such as carved bone or ivory or cast silver, sometimes with a chain linking the forward quillon to the pommel; some but not all were designed for hunting. They first appeared in the second quarter of the 17th century and became quite common in the 18th. |

Dutch ..... Hartsvangers met korte kruisgevesten, die vaak zijn gemaakt van kostbare materialen zoals been, ivoor of gegoten zilver, rijkelijk verzierd en soms met een kettinkje dat de pareerstang aan de voorkant verbindt met de gevestknop; voor het eerst vervaardigd in het tweede kwart van de 17e eeuw en veel voorkomend in de 18e eeuw. Soms speciaal bedoeld voor de jacht. |
Spanish ..... Espadas cortas, para ser colgadas, con empuñaduras pequeñas y en cruz, a menudo profusamente decoradas y hechas de materiales finos tales como hueso o marfil tallado o plata fundida, algunas veces con una cadena para unir el gavilán delantero al pomo; algunas, pero no todas, se destinaron a la caza. Aparecieron por primera vez en el segundo cuarto del siglo XVII y se hicieron bastante populares en el siglo XVIII. |
