Reckless Behavior (video)

This 90-minute program of recent and newly commissioned pieces of video art surveys several broad categories of work, including artists performing reckless or seemingly dangerous actions on camera, using guerilla tactics to stage public interventions that place them in physical or legal jeopardy, and employing explosive visual and narrative styles to portray social recklessness in both fictional and documentary modes.

"Reckless Behavior" features works by Cathy Begien, Nao Bustamante, Jeff Cain, Patty Chang, Tom Dale, Harrell Fletcher, Adam Frelin, Kate Gilmore, Mike Long and Jesse Sugarmann, Laurel Nakadate, and Joe Sola. The program also premieres newly commissioned works by Juneau/Projects and Joanne Jones and by Ryan Trecartin.

Please note that this program contains graphic depictions of violence, nudity, and bodily functions. No one under the age of 18 years will be admitted to the screening.

Aesthetics of Risk—SoCCAS Conference

The Getty Research Institute and the Southern California Consortium of Art Schools (SoCCAS) present "The Aesthetics of Risk," a conference that explores notions of risk in the most radical art-making practices of the past 35 years. Features speakers Jane Blocker, Douglas Crimp, Brock Enright, Rachel Greene, Steve Kurtz, Paul McCarthy, Cathy Opie, Richard Shiff, and Kristine Stiles.

Following the conference, at 7:00 p.m., is an evening of alternative music in the Museum Courtyard. L.A. band Future Pigeon performs with DJ Eddie Ruscha at 7:00 p.m.; the Red Krayola take the stage at 8:00 p.m.

The conference and concerts are free, no reservations required.
