Date: Saturdays and Sundays, July 5–September 6, 2009
Time: 11:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
Location: Getty Center, Family Room Patio
Admission: Free; no reservations required.
Drop in on art with Family Art Lab, a free workshop that combines an art encounter with a hands-on art project. In the galleries, a friendly guide will give you tips on completing a fun art activity—available in both English and Spanish—centering on a specific theme. Afterwards, you'll return to the workshop table to make your own masterpiece inspired by what you saw.
Fabulous Festivities: July 5–August 2
Discover how artists capture the energy and excitement of celebrations by spotting shapes, forms, and colors in a festive painting from the Museum's collection. Then draw on your artistic discoveries to create a colorful, dynamic collage that captures your own celebration!
Rain or Shine? Weather in Art: August 8–September 6
Explore the many faces of weather in art! Compare two paintings by the same artist—one calm, one stormy—to see how colors, movement, and mood can transform a scene. Back at the activity tables, you'll create a dramatic 3-D diorama that showcases your own interpretations of the calm and the storm.
How to Participate
Stop by the workshop table outside the Family Room in the Museum Courtyard any time between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The program is geared for families with children ages 5 and up, but anyone can participate.
