Note: Originally a Hindu goddess, Tārā was absorbed into the Buddhist pantheon during the sixth century CE and is represented in different forms in Buddhist iconography. As Buddhist savior-goddess with numerous forms, she is widely popular in Nepal, Tibet, and Mongolia. She is the feminine counterpart of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.
