Tara (Hindu-Buddhist deity)

Note: Originally a Hindu goddess, Tārā was absorbed into the Buddhist pantheon during the sixth century CE and is represented in different forms in Buddhist iconography. As Buddhist savior-goddess with numerous forms, she is widely popular in Nepal, Tibet, and Mongolia. She is the feminine counterpart of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara. According to popular belief, she came into existence from a tear of Avalokiteshvara, which fell to the ground and formed a lake. Buddhist savior-goddess having multiple forms.
