Note: Initiated by a French blockade of the port of Veracruz, due to refusal of the Mexican government to compensate French citizens for property damage during civil unrest in the previous years. Known as the Pastry War, after a pastry shop was damaged by rioters. Considered the first French intervention in Mexico. | |
