Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio (Christian iconography)

Note: Narrative of St. Francis reaching an agreement with a wolf that had eaten the flocks and terrorized the citizens of Gubbio, Italy. Francis plead with the people of Gubbio to feed the fierce wolf, because through hunger "Brother Wolf" had done this wrong. Depictions may include Francis with the wolf in oath taking, placing one of its forepaws in Francis' outstretched hand.
