Catherine of Alexandria, Saint (Christian character)

Note: A virgin and martyr; learned young girl of noble birth who protested the persecution of Christians under the Roman emperor Maxentius. Her story may derive from similar young ladies described separately by the pagan Eusebius and as a woman called "Dorothea of Alexandria" by Hypatia of Alexandria. Her feast is celebrated in the Latin Church and in the various eastern churches on 25 November.
