Note: Pierre-Gabriel Berthault, a French engraver and etcher, created prints for several large publications, including the Voyage de Naples et de Sicile and the Tableaux historiques de la Révolution française; The print, which was also issued with one of the editions of the Tableaux historiques de la Révolution française, depicts the feast celebrated in France on July 27-28, 1798, featuring a triumphal procession of works of art and other objects looted in Italy; The four horses of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice are seen on a chariot. A montgolfier or a hot air balloon, whose use was currently being developed, appears in the sky; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). | |
