The first volume in the Italian series focuses on eighty-three Neapolitan inventories selected principally for the light they shed on the tastes of their collectors. The inventories are of three types: works acquired by Neapolitan artists and their close relatives, collections of four aristocratic and two
bourgeois families extending over longer periods of time, and individual collections.
